Hmm... what version of Gnome is running on Ubuntu with Unity? I thought it was Gnome 3, just without gnome-shell?
It is gnome 2

Gnome-globalmenu-git is good for me but there is a problem with chromium 13.
When I clicked on the globlal menu, it appears a big empty area on the top of chromium.

I tried to install chromium and I can reproduce this glitch. I had a look at the commit history, and i guess it is related to this one and all subsequent commits. It seems like they are focusing on an experimental support for ubuntu's unity by creating a menu bar that is never shown, but can be fetched by global menu implementions. You could file a new bug at the chromium bug tracker, since the initial bug about a global menu is marked as closed.

I've installed aur/gnome-globalmenu-git successfully.
It's almost running fine except for firefox6
the menu still appears on top of the app window.
other apps like terminal, gedit display nicely.
what's wrong with firefox6 and globalmenu, does it work for you ?

For my knowledge, firefox and libreoffice are currently incompatible with globalmenu, since they seem to use their own widget implemention such that they are not accessible for the globalmenu gtk modules. Though, i guess both of these projects will switch to gtk3 sooner or later and maybe those things will be redesigned during the transition.

Gnome 3 is so lush I don't even care about the useablility. The activities panel is growing on me, just keep using the windows key
Personally I installed Docky and have it as a fixed bar on the left, Unity style, and it's more flexible than the Unity equivalent.
The new Gnome3 extensions https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/GN … extensions are pretty good overall, but there is no Unity style top panel. I agree that this would be a huge improvement and is one of the best things about Unity.
