I am installing arch Linux via usb stick, and everything worked perfectly, until it was time to install the boot loader, both offered loaders failed for what appeared to be separate reasons. GRUB appears to have failed because of my GUID partition table, but syslinux gave me an error about not being able to set boot flags. I have never messed with boot loaders before, but i know the easy out would be to switch to a MBR table instead, but that only supports 4 partitions and seems to have other problems as well. Also I use a GUID partition table for all of my ubuntu instillations and never had problems installing the boot loader.
Anyway I'm in over my head with the boot loader instillation, any help would be appreciated.

Read the syslinux wiki page about "legacy bios bootable" flag or use grub2 .

I just tried installing grub 2, and could not access any of the installed files (such as /ect) I need to be able to modify those files to install grub2. I tried ls and it came up with no results, like i was in an empty directory

also i am logged in at root@archiso, i think that may be part of the problem, but I'm not sure how to log in to my instillation from the installer.
