Gedit uses GTK3 themes, which if I recall correctly, unless you have some of them installed, lxappearance does not set. Maybe I recall wrong and it even doesn't set gtk3 themes.
Whatever the case, gtk3 themes are not being set.
EDIT: the icons issue seems to me kind of lxappearance changing the patch of the gtk2 icons while the awesome configuration for this remains unchanged (I think it looks at /usr/share/icons by default).

Best Testing Repo Warning: [testing] means it can eat you hamster, catch fire and you should keep it away from children. And I'm serious here, it's not an April 1st joke.

Last time i tested, the git version of lxappearance was already capable of changing gtk3 themes.

i tried both lxappearance-git and lxappearance2-git, neither worked although lxappearance-git did want to set gtk3 themes.

Sorry, you're right, the latest lxappearance-git just uses gtk3 as its toolkit, but isn't actually able to change the gtk3 theme, i confused those.

It tried to change it (when you select a gtk3 theme the theme of lxappearance changes, but applying them doesnt write the the file)
