Can't get printer to print [SOLVED]

I'm trying to get my Brother MFC-7360N usb printer to work but so far all I can make it do is feed some paper. I'm using cups-usblp since I couldn't even get paper to feed with regular cups. There is a PPD for the printer but it doesn't respond at all when I try it and the generic drivers will just feed paper. I'm also using the gnome printer tool on XFCE4 in 64 bit arch if any of that matters. I feel like I'm just missing something obvious so hopefully someone can help me out.

You need to use the Brother drivers: http://welcome.solutions.brother.com/bs … l#MFC-7360
and follow the instructions at their website. You might also want to refer to other Brother printer ArchLinux wiki entries.

Re: Can't get printer to print [SOLVED]

Alright, I can get the test page to print just fine after following the steps on https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Brother_MFC-420CN but the printer doesn't show up on the standard print menu (the one with the general and page setup tabs). It only shows print to file. If I try to print from libreoffice or gvim It tries to print a large log of some sort. Any ideas would be appreciated. I don't know how to get the log to a file so I'll just type some of it here.

%%Language Level: 3
%%DocumentSuppliedResources: (atend)
%%DocumentMedia: plain 612 792 0 () ()

then later it goes on to

currentdict end setpagedevice
} {
pop pop
} ifelse
} def
/pdfStartPage {
pdfDictSize dict begin
/pdfFillCS [] def

and continues on like that

I still don't know why I get the log when I try to print directly but I can use lpr to print pdfs just fine which is all I need, but if anyone has any ideas I'd still like to fix it if at all possible.

SUCCESS, did some more digging and found this thread, updated the 'file' package and now everything works as intended.
