slocate and other problems

I have just re-installed Arch64 to a new hard disk; starting from scratch to get rid of stuff tried and discarded the past years.

There is one irritation - I am a frequent user of 'locate' - but that is not a part of find-utils any more. Why? I have installed mlocate - but if there is a problem with slocate, maybe mlocate is also to be avoided?
Other problems, like "Failed to enable MSI-X"; akonadi_agent_l segfaults; D-bus call failed, /var/run/dbus/system_bus_socket does not exist - if anyone has a solution, or clues to a solution, I would be grateful.

Thanks for ther mlocate info.
The dbus related stuff was simple: I had forgotten to include dbus in the list of daemons.

The other two problems are next, after I have the printer working again.
