Nvidia drivers question

I must not have had enough coffee this morning.

Could someone please tell me what the difference between the nvidia and nforce package is?

As always, thanks for your help!

Re: Nvidia drivers question

nvidia are video drivers, nforce are chipset ones.

Re: Nvidia drivers question

I'm currently using the nvidia driver, is there any reason to also use nforce?

Re: Nvidia drivers question

You must have an nforce or nforce2 based mainboard, else this driver won't be of any use (and most probably it won't even install).

Re: Nvidia drivers question

nforce is on the motherboard while nvidia is on the video card. Basically, they are mutually exclusive, and not interchangeable. The nforce chipset controls onboard sound, video, disk drivers, etc etc.

Re: Nvidia drivers question

well you "can" install nforce too, it builds the nforce specific modules, for nvidia soundcards and nvidia ethernet card called nvsound and nvnet.
but if you don't have such hardware you don't need it of course.
