xfree86

hi!

I just installed the new 2.6.0-pre9 kernel. Can I use xfree86 from the pacman or must I compile it like with abs? I got a problem when starting startx so I thought I should compile it, but I've been trying to compile it two times and it misses some programs (startx, X, ...).

The directory /var/abs/x11/xfree86/src/xc/programs/mkfontscale/ doesn't seem to compile (I tried a make in the programs directory after the .pkg.tar.gz was created and it doesn't compile so I investigate). I found that mkfontscale wasn't working because a missing .h. So I concluded that the .pkg.tar.gz wasn't complete

What should I do?

Thanks

Michel

Re: xfree86

you should be able to use the regular xfree86 package with the 2.6 kernel.

when you say x doesn't start does not tell us much. there are lots of reasons X my not be starting but you have to give us an idea why it is not starting.

what xfree86 version are you using?

what video card do you have?

what errors do you get tryign to start x?

and so forth...

help us help you wink

Error:

Oh I didn't see this error last night... I got the problem:

xterm: Error 32, errno 2: No such file or directory
Reason: get_pty: not enogh ptys
Copied 3 times

Maybe I didn't do something I should when installing kernel 2.6.0

Re: xfree86

Sorry for my funny first sentence, it was because I had xfree86.pkg.tar.gz (downloaded) still in my computer.

I remove all I have installed with abs + pacman and reinstalled just binary version... So I could show the error
