After getting fed up with a longstanding problem with nvidia and see no other way out, I'm planning to buy a new videocard. Please suggest another card that performs just a bit better or the same as my present GeForce 7300 GS card (I don't need any stronger one, just using Compiz, and playing Descent is enough). I got a suggestion from majlo, he bought a Radeon 5770 from Asus, but then he wrote in a PM
But after few weeks with it, I'm not so happy, I was on the beginning. It works very good with open source radeon driver but performance is still worse than property driver from AMD, which is one big crap whit many many bugs (for example right bottom corner mouse stucking, Compiz 0.9.x works, but without mipmaps). If open source driver is enough for you (compiz, blender, CAD soft etc.) it is good choice, if you want play games on linux or need CUDA, i think NVidia will be better.
I'm willing to stay with nvidia, if the newest driver or nouveau (which won't work with mine either) work with it.
Please help me. The price tag should be around the same as my present card, but what's important, it should have no fans, passive cooling is a must.

I have a Radeon 5750 (almost the same as 5770, just a little bit slower) and have absolutely no problems using the open driver.
Configuration is a piece of cake with RandR, it supports 3 displays, simple power management and is very stable for me.
Don't know nothing about 3D performance, though...

@gorky: ah, ha! thanks, I must have looked at the wrong place.
@JokerBoy: thanks, that seems like a perfect one, I like the price tag as well.
@graysky: Thanks, but that is a bit too expensive for me.

Hmm, here in Hungary as well. What is the current counterpart of 7300GS from nvidia? Or of 8500GT for that matter.
