cannot burn cd-rw media

Hello,

I'm facing a problem that I hope somebody helps me to find out where's the problem.

With my notebook (Dell Vostro 1510) I can burn cd-r medias normally. But, when I try to burn a cd-rw (philips), neither wodim or cdrecord cannot burn that media. The message displayed is:

"Trying to use high speed medium on low speed writer."

Perhaps this is not related to the burn tools, but with udev or hal, but I cannot say, so can anyone help me with steps to find out where's the problem?

I have installed windows just for test it with Roxio and it burns the cd-rw without problems.

Here's the log messages displayed by Brasero:

Re: cannot burn cd-rw media

This one looked interesting, so I downloaded the cdrkit-1.1.10 source code and started poking around... here's my take on the problem:

The error message "Trying to use high speed medium on low speed writer." happens when (the minimum speed of disc you are using is >= 4) AND (the maximum speed of the disc is > 4) AND (the maximum speed of the burner itself is <= 4).

It appears (I think!) that you can verify the medium (i.e. the disc) speed by turning on debugging in wodim by adding a "-d" parameter and look for something like the following in the output while either trying to write or blank a disc:

"Current speed %d, medium low speed: %d medium high speed: %d\n"

It also appears that you (maybe) can override this error by adding the "-force" parameter to wodim.

...but don't take any of the above as being facts wink

Re: cannot burn cd-rw media

Oh thank you pigiron!

I wasn't receiving emails from the forum and that one was forgotten by me... Sorry...

I never faced this problem again, maybe because I did not have to burn cd-rw till now...

But it will be good to know in future tries... Thank you again!

Cheers
