Indeed I only feel happy to see I can connect to the account. I haven't tried anything nontrivial yet. The thing I am interested in is that, I heard the google calender is integrated into the gnome calender. I will try that as soon as gnome-shell 3.2 can start on my computer.
How know how gnome-online-accounts works? I added my gmail, but nothing happened.

Thanks. Indeed I forgot to rename the metacity-theme-3.xml.pacnew, and a few pacnews about GDM. But turns out that is at least not the unique problem. Still by default, I am login to the fall-back mode. (I tried to create a new user, and removed all unnecessary daemons in rc.conf, no improvement)
However, I found when I type gnome-shell --replace in the fall-back mode, gnome shell starts successfully. Also interestingly, actually the fall-back mode is very unstable for me, but gnome shell is (so far) stable enough actually.

It does start in fallback mode because in your system, gdm starts in the old interface. It does that because now it includes the same 3d detection from gnome-session and sets up a properly in X, which is passed to your session.
For gnome-shell to work, we need to fix gdm to actually start in the new interface, based on gnome-shell.
We know how to workaround it but I believe is a bug in gdm related to pam/consolekit and I'm working with upstream to understand the problem better.
Now you all know why I do not recommend users to try this repository.
Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Wonder: Thanks for explaining! Indeed I heard GDM has a new look but on mine I still have the old-looking one.

Just one piece of (should be upstream) problem: after some time, xorg use 100% cpu. The problem seems too general thus I don't know how to report the bug though... Reboot several times, the same problem happens. I don't know what triggered that.

I did not use aur package. This is a new install using gnome-unstable.

do you have glib2 2.29.something? is gnome-unstable repo above testing and core?
again, the issue that blocks me for announcing the repo is not fixed. You won't be able to login in gnome-shell.

fixed. I put gnome-unstable between testing and core. Thanks.
for some reasons, gdm still looks the same? anyways, still in beta.

See Wonder's post #854, there is a bug about it.

Hey.
Nonetheless the warnings I tried the repo today. I also experienced the problem with gdm & fallback mode. I just started gnome-shell afterwards from a terminal and everything (until now) looks good.
As far of now: i like the new "personal" menu.

For anyone who has tried (EDIT: or is going to try) the new beta: does it function properly with Catalyst?

you are implying that gnome-shell is the faulty here. amd has to fix their catalyst driver to work with gnome-shell

hmm.. I thought gnome-shell could provide a workaround or something. I guess you're right though

AMD has already fixed the problem, but didn't release the new drivers yet.

Could you provide me a link on that?

Seems valid! According to that post, the new driver should get released somewhere the end of september?
