Just burned archlinux-2011.08.19-netinstall-i686.iso (yes, the md5sum is fine). On attempting install on my laptop I get:
Decompressing Linux ...,
...
...
: : Triggering uevents...
Then it hangs forever. Any ideas?

Further to above post I have tried a number of kernel commands (edd=off, noapic, noacpi, video=..., etc) to no avail. Both the newer Arch versions core and the netinstall disks still hang on this laptop - last years installer does not. Also, attempts to do "pacman -Syyu" only partly complete, the old kernel is removed, but mkinitcpio is not run as it should so I have to chroot in to fix the system.
This laptop is an HP ze5600 FWIW....
Any ideas appreciated, because otherwise I might have to try a different distro on this laptop, which I really do not want at all!

I hit the same problem. Try appending nohz=off highres=off

I wish I could say that suggestion worked, but alas no. Still cannot boot the Arch install disk - now tried with many iterations of many kernel parameters. ;((
