something wrong with network connection

That's my first time installing arch,
I plugged the network cable into my computer and my router, both have light indicator flashing
when I tried to ping any website gives me unknown host instantly and If an IP it gives network unreachable

I've set up the rc.conf network settings that I use dhcp so I put eth0 to the interface and the others left blank below

lspci gives the name of the card :
ethernet controller : Realtek semiconductor ...... RTL8111/8168B

ifconfig gives just lo

ifconfig -a gives lo and eth0 which has a strange HWaddr FF:FF:FF:FF:FF:FF

ip addr gives eth0 is down and brd is the same as the link/ether that's the same as HWaddr

tried ifconfig eth0 up gives SIOCSIFFLAGS: Cannot assign requested address

Also I put the line nameserver 8.8.8.8 in resolv.conf that was empty

It all works well from mint xfce live dvd but tell that it's eth0, when I changed it in arch in the rc.conf file, then it doesn't exist

Please help, I googled a lot, read beginner's guide and tried to reinstall but no use

ps, I also tried ifconfig eth0 hw ether and didn't work

Re: something wrong with network connection

Maybe try netcfg instead of manually configuring?

Re: something wrong with network connection

Try to do the following (gnome3)

1- Make sure you installed the following:

pacman -S --needed usb_modeswitch wvdial ifplugd network-manager-applet polkit-gnome polkit consolekit gome-keyring libgnome-keyring pyxdg

2- Add networkmanager in daemons rc.conf and put ! before network. (DAEMONS=(hwclock syslog-ng !network netfs crond dbus networkmanager gdm)

3- Remove eth0 from rc.conf  INTERFACE.

Restart and it should be fine.

Re: something wrong with network connection

@ehabreda, I don't have a network connection at all, the indicator is flashing but no connection by any means so I  can't install additional packages if I got you right

Re: something wrong with network connection

So if you are not sure about the packages, try to do the settings and check it.

Re: something wrong with network connection

Could try assigning it a static IP via your router's configuration? smile

Re: something wrong with network connection

sorry guys I'm late to reply

@ the sad clown, I looked at that like already and did the fix they mentioned in bios as I don't have any other OSes on the disk, of course didn't make it.

@ ehabreda, I tried the settings and rebooted but didn't work (note that it's a fresh install that's I don't have a DE yet)

@ starfall, I looked at router's configuration trying to find what you told me but wasn't lucky, can you describe nearly what's it place and name?

*Update : I just put the dvd of linux mint xfce 201108 that has the kernel 2.6.39 and the connection isn't established too (same problem) although the older dvd worked fine
so it's obviously an issue with the newer kernels with the realtek 8168 card
