[SOLVED] ath9k drivers hanging

**Resolution**

Well, after playing around for a while, even trying some different network managers.

I edited the ethernet's ID in wicd from 'eth0' to 'eth71' (random number following 'eth' so that wicd doesn't find my ethernet interface)

This seems to solve the issue.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Hello there smile

I'm trying to set up my network on my new Acer Aspire One 522 netbook.

I'm using wicd (with wicd-gtk for configuration) on XFCE4. I've done some searching about wicd hanging and it seems to crop up a lot.

In my case, if I have my ethernet cable connected to my netbook, wicd connects to my wireless absolutely fine (I've deleted the ehternet connection from the wicd config with the gtk front end) So it is using the my wireless connection, however upon disconnection my ethernet cable, my system hangs after about 10 seconds or so. If I start the system up without the thernet cable plugged in, every starts up fine, but after being at the desktop for about 10 seconds, everything hangs so I have to force a shutdown by holding down the power button (I'm not even able to switch to a different tty)

I really hope someone can help with this, it's rather frustrating! sad

Thanks in advance for any help!

EDIT: Please see below the log from when I boot without my ethernet cable connected:

**Update**

After all day searching it seems this is more likely to be an issue with the ath9k driver for my wireless card (Atheros AR9285)

I have amended the title to better reflect the problem at hand.

I have found that running

sudo ifconfig eth0 down

is a work around for the issue.

I would really REALLY appreciate it if anyone would tell me how I can run the above command at system startup/with xinit (obviously it' being done via sudo, so this is a bit awkward)
