[Solved]Gnome Development releases on AUR

Hello Arch users!
I have an idea: I want to provide development tree (now it's 3.1) of GNOME in AUR. I have some questions to Arch Developers and TU:
First: GNOME is a pack of software that is a depedency of lots of packages. Is it possible to create in AUR packages with the same names as in [extra]?
Without it, my idea is not possible to realize.
Two: I don't want to duplicate other projects. Is there anything (I don't know about it) similar to my idea?
Three: It's a question for Arch user: are you interested of using and testing GNOME unstable? (It's a lot of work and I must be sure that it's a good idea)
At this time it's all I want to say.
I am waiting for replies.

No big deal, I'm glad you asked first instead potentially wasting many hours :-)

Re: [Solved]Gnome Development releases on AUR

here are my thoughts.

I hate seeing devel packages into aur because it makes my job harder when we provide official gnome-unstable versions because they mix AUR builds with official packages and is nightmare to debug.

Instead of pushing builds into aur, you should provide an unofficial repository, like kde-snapshots . Publish it on the forums and let other users  use it. I won't provide any early development version from gnome until the last beta/first rc and i won't interfere in your work in any way. You will mostly help me by packaging early new modules smile and our users can have a clean update from your repo to official ones

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

Of course. It would be stupid. big_smile

EDIT: Thank you wonder. It was my greatest problem: I had not any "serious" packages to build in AUR. Now, I will create my own unofficial repo and put packages into it.
I'm programmer, but i must gain more packaging experience to build anything more "official"

Re: [Solved]Gnome Development releases on AUR

Let me know if you need help.

From start, i want to advice you to use clean chroots when building packages. Read about it here: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/De … ean_Chroot  to understand how it works. After that, you can easy do it faster when using helpers like extra-i686-build/extra-x86_64-build, available as well in devtools. You will also have to enable your repo above extra in your chroot to build the new packages against new versions.

Can you recommend me any place to create my repository? I haven't got any server or website...

Re: [Solved]Gnome Development releases on AUR

Now there isn't any point to provide such repo. You will end up duplicating my work from gnome-unstable. Maybe after gnome releases 3.3.1

Now, i will create it only to learn more about building GNOME on Arch. I want to build working GNOME completely alone. If you want any help with packaging, I can tell you when I states that I have an appropriate level (I think 1-2 months).
