Will the setup dhcp during install, allow the use of a wireless N adapter? or must it a wired connection?
I know it sounds like a stupid question, but I was just wondering, whether I should get a 100ft cat5

That shouldn't make any difference. What is your card?

You didn't include the model number, but I think it is the Tenda W311U. Have a look at the page and confirm this.
From what I have read kernel 3.0 should support this device without any additional intervention. The name of the interface will probably be "ra0". Other than that, it should be like setting up any other wireless internet.

Yes it's a Tenda w311u... can you do an ftp install via a wireless adapter, thats my actual question. and are all wireless adapters the "same" in all distros? i mean if this one works well in say, ubuntu, will it work "better" in arch since arch is more of a keep it simple approach, not much "overhead" like other distros? I have a working distro now, I miss arch, but I can not get a wired connection to my computer due to location, cant put it down stairs where I'm staying.. so will arches wireless connection be "cleaner, faster" then ubuntu/kubuntu? hope that's a legit question.. thanks..

I use both ftp and http servers for my pacman mirrors. I have yet to see any difference and I did this exclusively via a wireless connection. It shouldn't be a problem. I don't know about cleaner or faster though. I'll leave that up to you to decide. I personally like Arch better than the *buntu's, and I particularly like their networking tool, netcfg, but I don't think the quality of the connection will be significantly different. The main difference between those distributions and Arch is the vanilla configurations being delivered as opposed to the more customized configuration of Ubuntu. If you have any problems with wireless, the wiki should be able to get you through it: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wireless

One last question.. if i use the CD install with the 3.0.x kernel, since I'm installing locally and NOT via ftp.. when its' done.. I should be able to just reboot and it should find my wireless adapter just like any other "wired" connection.. (should be transparent?) and I just go about installing as usual?
sorry to unsolve this thread, but I dont want to ruin a "working" install of another distro for something that wont work after formating, losing everything..
thanks, I hope My question is clear and I didn't break any rules by unsolving this thread and adding this question/post to it..
thanks again

Yes, it should work fine. Have a look at the Beginner's guide for instruction on some commonly used options post install. As for wireless, just follow the instruction from the wireless wiki I linked to above and you should be fine.

Use nefcfg, included in install image, to connect your SSID . I have install Arch yesterday within my wireless connection via ftp install option. Let me explain my installation steps, i think it will help you.:
- My wireless connection is a WPA2 personal connection. I have copied /etc/network.d/examples/wireless-wpa file to /etc/network.d/ and modified it with SSID name and passpharase.
- Then i just run netcfg up wireless-wpa
It all done. Now go to ftp installation steps. Thats so easy.
