I'm finding lightdm to be a very good replacement for the heavy-dependency display managers like gdm and kdm.
I've had good results with Gnome 3.2 beta 2 from the [gnome-unstable] repo. Thanks, wonder.
For some reason, though, I started getting glitchy behavior from gdm. I went with slim for a while, but then finally opted for lightdm, which I'd not used before.
