Does anyone know anything about this laptop and linux compatability? I just emailed the customer support for ethernet/wireless chipset info.  Let's see if they respond

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

I would've bought this laptop a few weeks ago if the store still had one in stock!  I've read some reviews about it and what I can remember is that the 3D preformance of the card wasn't too good.  I think the Linux compatibility was OK otherwise I wouldn't have considered it.

Yeah, I could care less about 3D performance... it's got an S3, lol

What I'm concerned with is wireless, mainly (and battery life, which I can't seem to find anything about)

I have no clue about the wireless support.  The battery life is listed at 3.5 Hours from the Futureshop  specs

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

didn't know it's refurbished... $20 less? it's $270 less for me ($899 at futureshop, $629 here).

Still refurbished isn't bad, especially at a 270 dollar savings.

The Futureshop price is in CND $.

EDIT: the 20$ saving is calculated from the 650$ price on  1st post.

Ah, you silly canadians and your fake money 8)

I doubt I'd be able to order it, and it's out of stock... ugh

I'll keep looking around though... I think I'll be buying one when I get paid next

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

for the record, according to some RH info, it's got a RaLink RA2500 card... that's one of the chipsets I have no experience with, so... hooray!

edit that was off slightly:

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

The averatec website only list the 3270.  I guess they aren't making the 3220 anymore.

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

Hmmm, I'm still seriously debating getting the refurb - I can't seem to find it anywhere cheaper (BestBuy lists it at about $950)... it's factory refurbished, so it shouldn't be bad... but it looks like the battery life kinda sucks...

Does anyone have any other options? Ideally, I'm looking for a 12-13 inch laptop with built in wireless and good battery life - the rest doesn't matter all that much, though I'd like at least a 1GHz machine.
Anyone?

Re: opinions: averatec 3220H1

When I was looking for a 12 in. laptop, the other brands (Toshiba Portege & Sony Vaio) were much more expensive at ~2500$CDN.
