Pretty Good Article about Arch Linux

I thought this was a pretty good article about Arch; just wanted to share.  Apologies if this has already been posted.  smile

You know I didn't even think to look there ..... I think the wiki quite literally has EVERYTHING!  wink

Kudos to the writer of the article for his appropriate use of the awesome Charlie Mingus quotation about the art of simplicity.

Re: Pretty Good Article about Arch Linux

From the article: "We're not about hand-holding. If you want to learn something, you better be prepared to learn it for yourself rather than have someone sit down and explain it to you."

This is drastically different from the Ubuntu Forums, and I agree that it is more conducive to learning, though for the new arrivals to arch, I've seen lots of frustration in their initial posts.

This is one of the main reasons I came to arch.

Re: Pretty Good Article about Arch Linux

IMHO, the Arch policy goes hand in hand with basic reading comprehension skills. For some distros this wouldn't work that well indeed as they not always bring to a user what Arch does: the technical basis for which the content of what is meant to be read is valid in almost every respect. Thus even the beginner, as long as he/she can read with understanding in a preferred language, and is eager to type a bunch of keywords in a search engine, may in no time at all complete a ready to use Arch installation. Not too much really for what is considered to be so intimidating about Arch...

Re: Pretty Good Article about Arch Linux

Agreed.  I have only just installed arch for the first time, but after all that I've heard about it, I was expecting it to be far harder.  You follow the documentation (which is extremely good and vast), and what do you know, it all works.  The system itself seems very nice and elegant.
