I installed Arch Linux and installed xorg and gnome later on, but now I have logged in to GNOME, but my resolution is 800x600 which means there is no grsphics driver installed, however I am trying to install nvidia driver, but libgl conflicts:
bash-3.2# pacman -S nvidia
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: nvidia-utils conflicts with libgl. Remove libgl? [Y/n] y
error: failed to prepare transaction (could not satisfy dependencies)
:: atl2: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: intel-dri: requires libgl>=7.2
:: ipw3945: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: madwifi: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: ndiswrapper: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: rt2500: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: tiacx: requires kernel26<2.6.26
:: wlan-ng26: requires kernel26<2.6.26
bash-3.2#
if I say no:
bash-3.2# pacman -S nvidia
resolving dependencies...
looking for inter-conflicts...
:: nvidia-utils conflicts with libgl. Remove libgl? [Y/n] n
error: unresolvable package conflicts detected
error: failed to prepare transaction (conflicting dependencies)
:: nvidia-utils: conflicts with libgl
bash-3.2#

Use pacman -Rd to remove libgl and then install nvidia.

that worked for me too (but conflicted with catalyst)
but shouldn't pacman be able to handle this by itself?

No, pacman shouldn't be removing this on it's own. intel-dri is "Mesa DRI drivers for Intel chipsets". The user simply needs to remove this if it's not in use.

Use "pacman -Rdds libgl"

Guys, this thread is pretty old ...
pacman didn't have '-Rdd' switch back then and the xorg group looked different.
Let's lay this thread to rest, shall we?

Karol is correct, this thread is based upon antiquated pacman behavior.
