Hi,
when I run alsamixer there is only one device on the capture screen, "Capture", there is no "Mic". I want to record sound from the computer, but when I record I get sound from the Mic too. Is there some hardware restriction that means I can't mute just the mic, or is this software or am I doing something stupid?
Thanks, Jamie

I too have only one volume slider labeled 'Capture', but I can select 'Mic' from the list (with 'space' on the keyboard)
Line CD < Mic > Video Phone S/PDIF Pl Aux Capture Mix Mix Mono ...
Not sure if this is what you're looking for.

That's the problem, I don't have "Mic" in the list, just Mic Boost, Capture, Digital and Internal Mic Boost. The only one I can select/deselect is Capture.

Just a random thought: https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Fu … 1520#SOUND
Luckily internal microphone (above LCD) works good, though you can't change its' volume or disable it in alsamixer.
'amixer' may help here. What's the output of
amixer | grep -i mic

I think I might have it the wrong way around, the "Capture" device is the mic, but I don't have a Stereo Mix device. I think I can use ALSA Loopback.

ALSA often doesn't configure itself automagically. Do the usual thing - google for your soundcard model with the keyword "linux", to see how others have fared.
