pycman - a simple python script

I wrote a simple script for:- getting info about packages
- getting dependencies of the packages
- listing packages
- veryfying installed package contents
- finding a package by a file

pycman's aur page

i don't like people saying that program doesn't work but printing on the console weird message like "bash: command_name: command not found" (it's real!!)
BTW, I'm using Jabber - the best IM protocol ever seen:)

Re: pycman - a simple python script

Have you seen pajman? It would be nice having pyjman to do all those things, since your program looks much more clear than mine.

Re: pycman - a simple python script

hey, one more python coder, smile

a tip for your script could be to use versioning on it,
like pycman-0.1.1 and so forth,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

just download diveintopython and the official documentation at python.org, that should keep you busy for a while, smile

Re: pycman - a simple python script

hello maniel,
i meant for the source, in the pkgbuild over at aur the source is just listed as pycman,

you could just run "tar cvzf pycman-0.0.2.tar.gz pycman" , that should fix it,

arch + gentoo + initng + python = enlisy

Re: pycman - a simple python script

EDIT:
should the version information be included as part of the tarball?
the version information is already stored (and should only be retrieved from) inside the pkgbuild. Usually the directory stored inside the tarball is named the same as the tarball, so it extracts in a reasonable and predictible location.

Re: pycman - a simple python script

the source should be named as its version,
like i showed above, pycman-0.0.2.tar.gz or something similar,
right now the source is just named pycman without versioning, then you could not tell if it has been updated,

Re: pycman - a simple python script

xerxes,
I agree for software distributed by the author. I thought we were speaking of arch package files for submission to the aur upload process.

Re: pycman - a simple python script

I'm getting failing md5sums everytime in the PKGBUILD in aur. Did you forget to update them?

I have 0.0.3 and especially like the verify function, very nice! I wish I knew a little more python...

Re: pycman - a simple python script

soon pycman (0.2.3) will be serving informations about packages on disc (*.pkg.tar.gz) in the next version i'll try to support remote packages on server like `pycman -Rpi http://server.adress.org/path/to/package.pkg.tar.gz`
