apps appear to install but aren't found and not checked in appset-qt

I'm a newbie with a little bit of linux experience with other distros (ubuntu, mandrake).  I've got 3 operating systems that I multi boot with (Arch, Ubuntu, Win7).  A couple of nights ago I had a power surge that wiped out my MBR and I reinstalled the drives from my last Clonezilla backups and restored Grub2.  Ran pacman -Syy, and pacman -Syu a couple of times and was getting a bunch of "files already exist in filesystem" errors.  Changed repositories and ended up with a big update (445mb) to the system (backups were 2 months old).  Arch seems to run OK with one exception.  Now when I try to install an app from pacman in a terminal window, or through appset-qt it looks like it's installing but it doesn't appear on the system when I try to run it and when I search for the item in appset-qt it is unchecked.  I have the same issue with Yaourt.  It looks like it ran through the install OK but I end up in an endless loop of install of the same thing.  for instance, I tried to install a gnome shell extension (for the power button on the menu all the time) from appset-qt (AUR section).  It appears to run the install, then it's not checked and the shell extension isn't there (even after restarting the desktop manager with alt-f2 and "r" and "enter").  I tried it from the terminal window with Yaourt also and got the same result.  This shell extension installed with no problem before the system crash/reload/big update.  unfortunately, I'm at work at the moment and not in front of the machine.  I don't recall any dependency issues when the installs were attempted.

Re: apps appear to install but aren't found and not checked in appset-qt

This seems to be resolved.  It appears that I had two issues with the items I was trying to install and run.  The first item itself was a bad install from the AUR, and the second was a permissions issue related to the installation folder.  Since this is my first post to this forum, I apologize if I wasted anyone's time reading over this issue.  I also don't see a way to close or remove this posting.  Thank you.

Good to see you got it sorted.

You can always use the 'report' button to ask a mod to move or remove a thread...
