gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

I may be a little early in the game here but I figured I would just mention that I'm having issues with pretty much all the cool extensions I had installed prior to 3.2.  I was wondering if anyone else was having similar issues.  I changed 3.0 to 3.2 in the metadata.js file to no avail, they are still unusable.  Was there any other changes that needed to be made?

The ones I cared the most about are:
system monitor (the cool one in the aur, not the one in repo)
weather
a11y (i know there is a hack, but I'd prefer a extension... or just an option to be able to remove the dang universal access icon period)
frippery (which are a bunch of different ones such as the apps button, quick launch, and such)

Also all my themes are a bit messed up... so what was the biggest changes in 3.2 besides the transparency finally working in the terminal?

I still like gnome 3 and know sometimes you have to take steps back to go forward...

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

same here...
gnome-tweak-tool->shell extensions->alternative status menu extension(i installed it today and it named as 3.2.0-0.20110927, so it should work) ->enable. after logoff-login it again disabled; and i can't even enable old extensions(i edited metadata.json file, tried put version 3.2, 3.2.0, 3, but nothing works)

Press alt+f2, enter lg and you should see what's wrong in the errors tab. Apparently gnome 3.2 needs more than the main function. Alternative status menu works here anyhow.

who cares about extensions. they are unsupported by upstream

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

well now i know there to start:) fixed few extensions which not had "init" function(renamed main() to init()); now will try to fix others as i understood 3.0 and 3.2 API's differs. this issue with extensions is definitely extensions bug(incompatibility) so and fix that incompatibility should authors of extensions, it's not archlinux problem:)

Extensions seem to work okay on my setup. After the update they were all switched off though in Advanced Settings.

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

I'm facing the same problem here with gnome-extensions. I mean, all them came turned off after update. I went Advanced Settings and turned it on. All have worked properly, but gnome-shell-extensions-alternative-menu. Same issue reported by @gymka.

@gymka, did you fix the problem or it is an incompatibility problem?

Sorry, but I think this is the wrong response.  Obviously, many, many users care about the extensions issue.  Many users have embraced them and want them to work as they extend gnome3s appeal and usability, and acceptance.  The short answer is, "I care about extensions, and so do many users."

few extensions had error "no init function", so i added to these extensions that init() function and after that they started to work, so i fixed them and all others still don't work:)

Well i care about extensions, since i can not login into gnome after updating to 3.2.
Maybe i didnt spend hours on fixing the problems, but is this  the sence it is supposed to be?

The extensions were disabled by default, after the error message came, and it didnt do anything.
Then i moved the extensions out of  /usr/share/gnome-shell, to make it work temporarily.
What happened? Only one extension left that made problems: gnome-shell-theme-selector.
Does anybody how to switch this off? Or something, that can login again?

Edit:

i found the info again, that this theme-selector is in ~/.local/share/gnome-shell/extensions
I moved the extension one directory higher. And now in this error message window it is said that i should re-login,
but there is nothing said about any extension any more.

@gymka, you modified each file manually or made it other way? Could you tell me how to proceed? Only extension not working yet is the alternative-menu

eg. extension "move_icons_to_up@for_personal_use", it shows error that there is no init function, so i:

$ gedit ~/.local/gnome-shell/extensions/move_icons_to_up@for_personal_use/extension.js

and renamed function "main" to "init", same with another extension. alternative status menu still dont work. places extension had to update and then it started to work.

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

Funny thing is that alternate-status-menu extension does not work .. it is a upstream extension ..

... also activitiesbutton does not work anymore, no fixed version, tried to fix it on my own, but api changed for getting the upper left button.

Same for me, the dock doesn't work. I tried uninstalling it, reinstalling, without success. There was this weird behavior where clicking on where the dock actually resides (but isn't displayed) would launch the actual applications that are mapped to that area. After moving dconf, gconf, reinstalling, still no success.

When looking at 'lg' log, it says dock extension loaded, no errors reported there. Any other places to look?

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

I've also been having issues with gnome-shell-extension-alternate-tab which does not behave properly, or at least, the way it used to. I cannot press tab a second (or multiple) time to browse to a further window, it only allows me to switch the next window, very briefly showing the preview. Also, i cannot click with the mouse to choose a windows.

Other usual suspects are the weather and system-monitor that do not work, but I have read reports somewhere else they are not yet compatible, fair enough, but I cannot say the same about dock, alternate-tab and apps-menu.

The weather extension seems to be updated. I installed it today and it works once again.

Thanks for the update, I can confirm that the latest git update for gnome-shell-extension-weather works in 3.2

Yes, that works now. I was referring to alternate-tab and apps-menu, which are 2 other distinct shell-extensions.

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

Having the same problem with the dock. Starting to like the feel of gnome since the 3.2 update, but no having that dock could be a deal breaker.

Anybody try AWN or dockbarx? Not integrated I know, but it may be better then nothing.

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

Hi,
For me, the new alternative-status-menu from extra still don't work...
I can activate it with gnome tweak tool, but after a reboot, I fall on the "blue screen" of gnome and have to deactivate the extension.
Any idea?

Re: gnome shell extensions issues since 3.2 release...

I have the same problem-blue-screen- as @Agamemnon. I have latest alternative-status-menu (3.2.0-1) and drive-menu (3.2.0-1). I don't understand why all the extensions stopped working after upgrade to 3.2.
