Hi,
I always used KDE but with 3.2 I want to give Gnome a try.
First problem when I try to start a gtk app:
(firefox:3135): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_settings_set_long_property: assertion `GTK_SETTINGS (settings)' failed
(firefox:3135): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_settings_set_long_property: assertion `GTK_SETTINGS (settings)' failed
(firefox:3135): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_theme_get_for_screen: assertion `GDK_IS_SCREEN (screen)' failed
(firefox:3135): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_icon_theme_get_search_path: assertion `GTK_IS_ICON_THEME (icon_theme)' failed
segmentation fault
Thanks for a solution in advance

Hello,
try logging into KDE and change the gtk2 theme with gtk-chtheme or gtk-theme-switch2
by the way are you using oxygen-gtk-git(http://aur.archlinux.org/packages.php?ID=43581)?

Doesn't work. I receive seg faults when using a theme switcher:
(gtk-chtheme:2276): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_unref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
** (gtk-chtheme:2276): CRITICAL **: clearlooks_style_draw_render_icon: assertion `base_pixbuf != NULL' failed
(gtk-chtheme:2276): Gtk-CRITICAL **: IA__gtk_style_render_icon: assertion `pixbuf != NULL' failed
(gtk-chtheme:2276): GLib-GObject-CRITICAL **: g_object_ref: assertion `G_IS_OBJECT (object)' failed
segmentation fault
And I use the "normal" oxygen-gtk package.

So you can't launch any gtk application in kde neither?
try changing the theme from gtk-kde4(System Settings >> Gtk Style)
I had same problem but gtk applications would open on kde. So after launching gtk-chtheme or gtk-theme-switch2 from kde and change theme everything went back to normal.
you could try also oxygen-gtk-git but no idea if will work.

Just remove include "/usr/share/themes/oxygen-gtk/gtk-2.0/gtkrc" from your ~/.gtkrc-2.0 file.

Thanks JokerBoy, that solved it.
Is there anything else form KDE that could interfere with a smooth Gnome experience?
From my point of view Gnome doesn't look nice out of the box (e.g. big window borders, not so nice font). With KDE I was happy with just installing it - everything looks good. Nevertheless I'll give Gnome a longer try.
