Bios problems

I hope this is the right section. I have a six-year-old notebook (Acer Aspire 1360 series), and since a week (or so) the bios performs badly.  I can still boot Arch (thankfully - that's my only OS), but the symptoms are:

1) A bios password is no longer requested.
2) A "shutdown now -h" leads to reboot. This means that I have to cut power off the hard way (not recommended, I know).
3) When I shutdown in the evening, the clock is set back for about four hours over night.

I must admit that I know very little about this part of a system. Doesn't has the bios its own, internal battery? Is it just out-dated hardware, or is there any other way to fix or track down this problem?

Re: Bios problems

The Bios has its own battery, you might want to change it.

Re: Bios problems

and while you are at it, you might also want to update your BIOS to the latest version, if its not already.

and the good thing is, that you don't need to install Windows for it anymore. You can do it through linux. Flashing BIOS from Linux
