Vim command not found.

Hello,

After folowing this video on youtube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mnknl822Z64 I got an error from the command line saying that the vim command is not found. Nevertheless I started x without those commands and it only shows three white command lines.

Can I fix this?

Thanks

Alex

That means that you dont have vim installed.

Install it as root by

pacman -S vim

Or you can also use another editor called nano, but since you are following that video, it would be better to use the same or you will have to use different keybindings to save the file etc.

If it shows you only "command lines" I am assuming you are still in tty and not in X. I am also assuming that you are trying to install Arch. Have you even read the Beginners Guide on our wonderful wiki?

Re: Vim command not found.

I would recomend installing the gvim package (pacman -Syu gvim), since it contains a vim binary compiled with +X11stuff, +python and other fun and usefull stuff.

There was some other user who recently reported something similar.

Edit: Sorry, not quite similar http://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=100621

BUT WHEN I REBOOTED, and went into arch linux through the new bootloader, NOTHING but a BLACK SCREEN, comes up with two little white lines near the top!
