PNG Images Not Rendering

I restarted my system yesterday, and when I fired up X, I found that I was unable to view transparent PNG images properly (I specifically noticed this in Firefox, but images are looking funky in Thunderbird, too). Basically, where there should be a transparent background, I see solid black. Google search was no help at all. I don't think it's a problem with libpng, because a friend running the same version of this package is not having any trouble (his arch system is also up to date). I'm not sure where to begin troubleshooting this.

Any suggestions?

Restarted after what? Something unusual happed or do you mean you booted it?

Just to be sure, what version of libpng do you have?

funky images are good.

an example of what funky is would be good for us to troubleshoot as well

did you change any /etc/hosts file which might create problems in retrieving the images from particular sites. Any adblock or privoxy maybe that you installed?

I was working in OpenOffice, and it crashed, so I rebooted. I'm running libpng version 1.4.3-1.

No, I didn't change anything in /etc/hosts. I'm not running any adblock add-ons, and haven't changed any of my Firefox preferences. As far as I can tell, the only thing that changed from when it worked to when it didn't, was that I upgraded via pacman -Syu and rebooted. Rebooting again didn't help either, of course.

Use /var/log/pacman.log to find any suspicious package.

But maybe there are some packages related to displaying pngs. Have you tried reinstalling libpng?

It has about 14 dependencies; should I reinstall those as well?

If it helps, I am running the Catalyst video driver for my ATI card. I wouldn't be surprised if it was related to Catalyst somehow.

Update: Problem Solved! It was actually a color management issue in Firefox. I simply had to disable color management, following the directions here: https://developer.mozilla.org/En/ICC_co … in_Firefox
