Hello,
Do I really need to create a separate /var partition?
On my configuration, I only have /root, /boot, /home and swap.
I have 2 operating systems on my computer, so there is only a limited amount of partitions that I can create.
Is there an advantage to having /var in a separate partition?

No.

Yes. Flexibility for instance.
Don't bother if it's too hard in your current setup. I have mine on / and I'm alive.

Not really on a desktop machine -- I do it out of habit.
On servers it's a good idea to prevent a malicious (remote) user being able to fill your root partition by flooding logs etc.
Same goes for /tmp
