vlc, mplayer... segmentation fault

guys, Im tired of this...
I had some troubles with last update which were solved here
and now I have another couple of problems sad :

mplayer, vlc says segmentation fault any time Im trying to play a video.
KDE desktop enviroment is terribly painted (flux is ok)
glxgears (in flux) gives 60 fps !! (it was 250 before, I know that somethink was wrong but I could not figure it out before and now its.....)

mplayer that_70s_show.6x04
Segmentation fault
vlc that_70s_show.6x04
VLC media player 1.1.0 The Luggage (revision exported)
Segmentation fault

I did try reinstall vlc by pacman -Rs vlc but its the same...
I do remember times when arch was pretty stable, so is it so now or Im the one who cause this ?!
thanks in advance!

Re: vlc, mplayer... segmentation fault

Being frustrated is not going to help you. You are using a rolling release distro, so you should expect and be prepared for breakage occasionally.

Having said that, I don't have a problem with either vlc or mplayer. which means its only at your end.

When you get segmentation faults, post the error logs here so we may be better able to help you.

Try to start the programs through command line which will give you some output on a segfault. You can also see the xorg logs for errors and post that here as well.

@ Inxsible
Have you seen what his problem was? deleted GLIBC.

this is output from amarok's start :

$ amarok
<unknown program name>(14670)/: Communication problem with "amarok" , it probably crashed.
Error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.amarok was not provided by any .service files" "

KCrash: Application 'amarok' crashing...

about that 60fps ...it have been told me that this (even with 250fps) that ist wrong installed graphic card, but I followed archwiki during instalation and there are just few (I dont know now how many exactly but I guess 2) steps to follow so there in no place for mistake...
which logs should I post too?
thanks for helping me...

Re: vlc, mplayer... segmentation fault

error message was: "org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.ServiceUnknown" : " "The name org.kde.amarok was not provided by any .service files" "

this message says that you are not authorized to consolekit. you are not using kdm and you use startx without proper options or that is really missing

exec ck-launch-session startkde

to debug vlc just start it with vlc -vv and play a file. you can also use gdb to start mplayer/vlc and see in which soname is segmenting. and reinstall.

arch is pretty stable and you did something wrong if you managed to have so many files lost.

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.

plugins-04041e-1e8.dat should be part of vlc package which I tried to reinstall several times, vlc-plugin too...
I tried to complete remove and reinstall kde (altough Im using fluxbox),xorg and did Xorg -configure but nothing works.
I guess it will be faster and easier to reinstall whole OS becauce even fixing vlc won't help me with  60fps and mplayer issue sad
but thanks for hepl guys!
we'll see each other in topic 250fps on Intel GMA which Im intend to create right after reinstallation of Arch big_smile
aaach, thanks! (:

Re: vlc, mplayer... segmentation fault

Maybe un-installing vlc and then tracking down each and every vlc related files/folders and deleting them (even under your /home, /home/.config, /home/.local) etc

and then re-installing vlc might help.

he could find out directly if he used gdb to track down the segmentation

Give what you have. To someone, it may be better than you dare to think.
