should pcmanfm 0.9.7-1 even be in the extra repo? it's terrible right now. the app is nowhere near completion, even according to their devs, with functions not working and other issues. surely this should be in testing until its a fully functioning program.

Not every package has to go through testing, but I know what you mean.
Talk to the maintainer.

I uninstalled pcmanfm after the spate of issues it had in 0.9.7. I simply use the CLI now.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !

Is it possible to stick w/ older releases?

i downgraded to the 0.5 version. it's a real shame of the state of the upgrade. i considered going back to thunar but i've gotten used to the tabs. what would be ideal for me would be to have the old pcmanfm with dual panes, thats a digression for another thread maybe..
@karol
i didn't have any issues downgrading, dependency-wise i mean.

Again OT, but google tells me that to change the wallpaper in lxde you need pcmanfm - cli command:
pcmanfm --set-wallpaper /path_to_paper
'Suppose I should really open a new thread ... and will.
EDIT:
Didn't, nitrogen did the job.

In my office I am using Lubuntu (LXDE) and all apps work excellently. Two days ago I tested 10.10 alpha 3 and does well. Are there something wrong with the Arch packages or does Lubuntu and Linux Mint configure the pcmanfm and other lxde apps differently? Its annoying when seeing the difference, since many months.

I have just spent a couple of weeks using the LXDE version of Mint. Fast but a bit unpolished, though usable. I have LXDE/compiz on my main arch systems and was quite surprised to find pcmanfm had regressed. Couldn't set the wallpaper from prefs, directory sort order didn't want to stick. I just ended up editing the files in .config/pcmanfm until I got what I wanted.
No crashes here.
If you want an alternative file manager try emelfm2.

Try Lubuntu. Mint is slow and alluring.

The problem with the "old" pcmanfm is that it had some trouble with opening files/directories with a double click (problem caused by newer gtk I believe), search the forum and you will see what I mean.
The "old" one however still has more features though, like a tree view (which stopped working well sometimes). The old one might be kept in the repos (or maybe the AUR is a better place for that) as pcmanfm-old or something and let people choose. Also the "old" pcmanfm still depends on hal (which is getting deprecated) for some things while the "new" one depends on udisks for the same thing.

my main problems with the new pcmanfm(-git) are the buggy gamin behaviour and the incomplete mime/open-as implementation, it doesn't keep me from using it though -- for now..
