nvidia-96xx

Does anybody knows why nvidia-96xx is not (anymore) included in extra?
http://www.nvidia.com/object/linux-disp … river.html
ftp://download.nvidia.com/XFree86/Linux-x86/96.43.18/

96.43.18 is fully compatible (and certified) with xorg 1.8

Re: nvidia-96xx

Please fix the typo in the title -'nvidia-96xx', not 'nividia-96xx'.

You can get some older versions from http://arm.kh.nu/search/index.php?a=32& … ommunity=1
96.43.18 is in AUR

Re: nvidia-96xx

Older versions have problems with xorg 1.8
The packages in AUR sound me familiar :-)
It would be nice to have an official package.

Opps, I should have checked the AUR account of spooky - the e-mail address doesn't leave any doubts, sorry about that :-)

I suggest you ping the mailing list if you haven't done so already. The maintainers don't always check the forums.

Re: nvidia-96xx

I just tried to do an update on my machine and it told me that nvidia-96xx requires kernel26<2.6.35. I think that was the reason why it was removed from the official repos as 2.6.35 is now in core.

Re: nvidia-96xx

I don't think so.
kernel 2.6.35.x is in core since yesterday, nvidia-96xx has been removed from extra in June-July.
I'll update the AUR packages in few minutes.

Every third-party driver in repoes depends on exact version of kernel, as it needs to be recompiled for every new major kernel realease. (ls /lib/modules should explain more)
It's quite a standard procedure, I'm surprised you haven't noticed that yet... wink
