[SOLVED] bin32-xxx packages, why not add them to official repos?

For example, why not add bin32-sky[e to the official repos? For that matter, why not add bin32-skype to the official repos as just "skype" and have it be the x86_64 version, and then replace it with the 64bit version if skype releases one eventually?

I mean, it's no big deal to do a yaourt -S bin32-skype, but still. It might boost users' confidence a little (those who don't want to install user packages "at their own risk").

Aha, cool! Thanks for that link Karol.

So so the temporary multilib repo will be integrated with the Arch repos sometime (soon)?

AFAIK, the multilib repo won't be temporary, the offical repos will be 64-bit ONLY, and all 32-bit stuff will be thrown into multilib, it will be 'official' in the same way that [community] is 'official'.

Re: [SOLVED] bin32-xxx packages, why not add them to official repos?

Well, the [community] repo is hosted on the same servers as [core] and [extra], and [testing] and [community-testing] for that matter, but [multilib] isn't. It'd seem that for it to be 'official' it'd have to be included with the default mirrors in "mirrorlist".

Also, what does AFAIK mean? lol lol

@trusktr, it has only just been established, so of course its not been mirrored out yet.

I've heard about people enjoying wine and crackers but computer folks are a weird breed indeed :-)

Re: [SOLVED] bin32-xxx packages, why not add them to official repos?

So now that multilib just hit repos, can I ad it like this:

[multilib]
Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist

?

Or is it dustributed inside [core], [extra], and [community]? Or is it in [testing] mode?

Re: [SOLVED] bin32-xxx packages, why not add them to official repos?

yes trusktr, its a separate repo. its not within any other. The mirrors that you use however, will have to have that repo as well or you won't see packages in multilib. If that happens, try using a different mirror.

So how is this different from the previous solution? (lib32-* packages in community)

The packages will be built with a multilib gcc instead of just putting the i686 packages in /opt. See ML link in wiki article refered above for more info.
