[Solved] KDE widgets disappear!

Well, the subject line says it all... I'm not sure of what I did that could cause this, but my desktop widgets are all gone...

The only bit of information I can add is that when I first noticed this, the wallpaper had been changed (by no action of mine) to the background used by the Login Manager.

Thoughts anyone? roll

Oh, I forgot to mention, I'm running testing, so I've been running KDE 4.5.0 for some time now, and it has been working without any issue whatsoever. Well, until now, that is...

Did you upgrade anything? Changed some settings? A black cat crossed your way?

Re: [Solved] KDE widgets disappear!

The last upgrade before this problem was yesterday, but today everything was fine when I first started the computer (i.e. the widgets were there). As to changed settings, the only thing I changed was the wallpaper: I changed it back to the original.

Well sort of. I have two monitors (TwinView), and each's wallpapers can be configured separately. When both were somehow changed to the one used by the login manager, I changed one back to the previous, and the other to some other wallpaper. I think that the widgets (which I only have in one of the monitors) were gone by the time I noticed the change of wallpaper, but I'm afraid I'm not 100% sure...

I originally posted this in Desktop Environments because KDE 4.5.0 has been moved to extra. Are users that run testing supposed to ask all questions in the respective subforum? I was under the impression that testing subforum only applied to issues that arise with packages that have not yet been moved to the "main" repos (which like I said, is no longer the case with KDE).

No - I was working on the principle that there would be more people here who would be familiar with/interested in your issue...

Since the same happened to me, i think you should check the Activity Manager: click on 'cashew', the item on the top right corner of your screen and select 'Activities'.
It probabli switched to or created another activity, even if you weren't using them specifically. If it doesn't work, exit this session and reenter it, the recheck the activities. As last resource, reboot and check activities again.

Wow, that was it! Thanks lucak3, finding this out on my own would have taken like a million years or so smile
