Error syncing to Ipod Touch 3G

I just got an Ipod Touch 3G and am trying to get it working with Arch. I followed the directions here:

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/IPod

and everything seemed to be working fine until I tried to use gtkpod to transfer music to the ipod. When I attempt to transfer the text I've posted below is printed to stdout.

I was able to get everything working properly using my Arch installation on another computer with almost the exact same setup so I know its possible to get this working. Any help with this would be greatly appreciated.

rtalreja,

Please use code tags. They are there for a reason.

Re: Error syncing to Ipod Touch 3G

I've always found gtkpod to be unstable. Between its confusing interface and its tendency to lock up frequently, I was never able to use it successfully. I know that not everyone has bad experiences with gtkpod, but it seems that you are having some of the same experiences that I did.

As inconvenient as it is, this is my recommendation -- install Rockbox on the iPod. Rockbox isn't perfect, and it certainly doesn't provide simple syncing like the standard Apple iPod firmware does, but it is surprisingly high-quality and, unlike the standard iPod firmware, works very well with Linux. Without too much effort, you could even write one or two small bash scripts that syncs the iPod just like iTunes does -- that's what I did at least.

If  you are interested in more information on Rockbox, please let me know. As I said, it is not perfect, but with a little effort is one of the best solutions for using an iPod with Linux.
