Did you guys read that?

To use the flash player in firefox, you must set
  dom.ipc.plugins.enabled
to true in about:config. It will crash a lot otherwise.

At least for firefox, it helps. As for the rest, I have no idea. Whenever I saw someone having problems so far, it was due to old and broken lib32 packages still being on the system.

I have just installed flashplugin from multilib and now firefox crashes after I open some flash contents. I think it might be because I have no clue how to do this:

To use the flash player in firefox, you must set
  dom.ipc.plugins.enabled
to true in about:config. It will crash a lot otherwise.

Can someone please tell mw how to set dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to true in about:config? I tried firefox preferences and found nothing.
Thanks.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

Look into "about:config".

@Skripka @deej you are doing it wrong by using aur builds for flash. get rid of junk from aur (pacman -Qm) especially nspluginwrapper-flash/debian and get rid of the plugin from ~/.mozilla/whatever the path is.

then enable multilib repo and pacman -Syu flashplugin

nothing more, nothing less

Mmmm... did as suggested and it works OK now. Thanks.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

Hi guys,

I had the same problem, maybe my findings can help someone.
After installation of flashplugin from multilib repo, i got warning:

nspluginwrapper: no appropriate viewer found for /usr/lib32/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

And there was no plugin directory in my ~/.mozilla/
I tried many reinstalls, then tried to run

nspluginwrapper -v -a -i

as from wiki. And got error

/usr/lib/nspluginwrapper/i386/linux/npviewer.bin: error while loading shared libraries: libXdamage.so.1: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS64

libXdamage was of course installed, but by crawling on forums I have found that I need lib32-libxdamage. Yes, I'm installing 32-lbit library, sure. This was the main problem, after installing this, and running again nspluginwrapper -v -a -i.
Now everything works, hooray!

This is again a problem that only happens if you don't -Syu completely. The packages in our repositores have the correct dependencies and work out of the box. Using a mix of old and new packages will lead to lots and lots of errors like yours.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

Using Midori and flash from the repo produces some interesting results.

Upon opening Midori it freezes for fifteen to twenty seconds with this error.

*** NSPlugin Viewer *** ERROR: /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

After that time this error is produced and the browser and the flash plugin works.

*** NSPlugin Wrapper *** WARNING:(/home/thomas/arch/repos/community/nspluginwrapper/trunk/src/nspluginwrapper-1.3.0/src/npw-wrapper.c:3160):invoke_NP_Initialize: assertion failed: (rpc_method_invoke_possible(g_rpc_connection))

I believe the path shown is the path on the packager's machine because nothing like that exist on my machine.

I'm trying to get flash from the multilib repository going........but no dice so far.
The installation is shown below and I did set dom.ipc.plugins.enabled = true in firefox.
I also tried removing flash and re-installing.   Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You lack the right libraries to run flashplayer (or they don't work). Either you have out of date or incompatible libraries installed. I suggest running -Syu first.

I'd say lib32-cairo-ubuntu, lib32-fontconfig-ubuntu, lib32-freetype-ubuntu or libxft-ubuntu is not compatible to our lib32-gtk2 build, but it's just a guess. Most of that stuff looks like nobody would ever need it anyway.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

With dom.ipc.plugins.enabled to true in about:config works fine in firefox. It works also in chromium, but I have a problem with Epiphany:
When I click the right mouse button on some flash (for exemple from this page http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ) flash hangs. I need to kill npview process in order to continue browsing.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

Removed all of those ubuntu lib32 files, did a pacman -Syu and re-installed flashplugin.  Still no go.

Edit:

Did a re-install of lib32-gtk2 and then a re-install of flashplugin.  Now it works..........kind of.  Crashes a lot in chromium but works
better in firefox.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

Wow... I thought my flash is acting strange in Konqueror, but it actually works. It just that some videos need more time to load than other.
Also it still sometimes lag and all other things...
But it works, you just have to be patient and wait.

EDIT: Er I think that embedded videos still don't work.

To anyone still watching this thread... install flashplayer-prerelease from AUR. Adobe have thankfully decided to now support 64-bit on all platforms.

Re: Flash player in multilib is unstable

The flashplugin-square package has been removed... flashplugin-prerelease installs the "square" version.
