no boot screen- taken straight to Windows...

I installed Arch from the archboot 08-1 image. After the install completed (which was quite easy, :-)) I found there is no boot screen that pops up and therefore it the computer boots the next available boot device, which would be Windows. I installed Grub2 to the MBR, perhaps this is where I messed up? Any help is much appreciated.

Re: no boot screen- taken straight to Windows...

I thought Archboot was just a set of scripts to create a bootable CD/DVD/USB.

You should be using the Arch core or ftp isos (again cd or usb) from the download page and install grub to the MBR. The latest snapshot is 2010.05. Also once you install everything, you can change over to grub2 later.

Re: no boot screen- taken straight to Windows...

Thanks, though it seems as though I can do a full install using Archboot?? I just started installing again, have partitioned the hard drive and am now downloading packages from the servers now. It seems to me to be capable of an installation.

Though, as you say, maybe the problem is that I am using Archboot to try to do a new install?

Now, I am confused? smile

What is the difference to the official install media (latest version)?
- It runs a modified Arch Linux system in initramfs.
- It is restricted to RAM usage, everything which is not necessary like
man pages etc. is not provided.
- LTS kernel boot images are provided
- Initial module loading and hardware detection is done by the hwdetect script.
- It doesn't mount anything during boot process.
- It uses a different setup script.

@OP it sounds as if grub did not get installed to the MBR
