Wireless issues

wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: *mac address* denied authentication (status 13)
wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: *mac address* denied authentication (status 13)
wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: *mac address* denied authentication (status 13)
wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: *mac address* denied authentication (status 13)
ADDRCONF(NETDEV_UP): wlan0: link is not ready
wlan0: authenticate with  *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: deauthenticating from  by local choice (reason=3)

I get that when ever I try to connect through wicd using the settings of WEP (Passphrase) and with passphrase entered (isnt an access point owned by me hence why its not wpa)
yet when ever I connect through the shell with

iwconfig wlan0 essid "essid" key s:passphrase
then
dhcpcd wlan0
I get

wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: *mac address* denied authentication (status 13)
wlan0: authenticate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: authenticated
wlan0: associate with *mac address* (try 1)
wlan0: RX AssocResp from *mac address* (capab=0x411 status=0 aid=1)
wlan0: associated

I also frequently get disconnected with the line wlan0: deauthenticated from *mac address* (Reason: 7) then reconnect with the iwconfig line

if anyone could help it would be much appreciated

I think I've seen somewhere here on the forum a similar problem, if I remember correctly the solution involved using wpa_supplicant.

Do a search for 'wep wpa_supplicant' and you'll find a few threads with sort of similar problems.

im using the linux firmware driver from core
ok thanks albeit now I cant seem to get assigned any address from the router which is odd
