[Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

Recently update of flashplayer made itself broken for firefox. I had the same with seamonkey, but it wasn't important. Now I may use only Chromium with flashplayer. And I am confused how to fix it. I have 32 bit. Any ideas?

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

Can you be more precise: what version of firefox and flashplayer?
What doesn't work - flashplayer doesn't even start, it crashes firefox or ...?

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

flashplugin-10.1.85.3-1
Mozilla/5.0 (X11; U; Linux i686; en-US; rv:1.9.2.10) Gecko/20100916 Firefox/3.6.10

I can't view any video due youtube, etc. No crushes, because Chromium works well.  Seamonkey has the same issue, but it happened two months before.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

I have the same setup: versions match, also 32-bit. Everything is working fine.
Check the permissions for the plugins.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

ls -l /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so
-rwxr-xr-x 1 root root 11951040 вер 21 02:28 /usr/lib/mozilla/plugins/libflashplayer.so

It can't be permission troubles, because another browser works fine.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

I don't think those two are related, but https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=105312 is still unresolved.
The only similarity is that some people have some problems with some version of flashplugin while for other users it's working fine.

Does downgrading make it work again in firefox?

http://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Downgrade

If you still have the app in your pacman package cache, use it, if not, visit http://arm.konnichi.com/search/ and download it from there (along with any needed dependencies).
Next 'pacman -U /path/to/file.pkg.tar.xz'.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

before you downgrade, you might want to check if deleting the user configuration for firefox fixes it.

you can try by deleting the ~/.mozilla folder and also the cache directory for firefox.

Would creating and running from another profile be enough?

That would essentially be the same thing, so yeah. But i just find it easier to delete the existing user config as almost all of it is auto configured any way. Yes you might lose your home page and a few favs, but that can be easily rebuilt.

I don't know as for You, but as for me it's hard-core way… Firefox from another user work as well.

I didn't know that pacman's cache stores old versions. Nice. Thanks. I'll try to downgrade.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

Hmm depends what you have in your profile really... I would punch myself in the face for deleting all my bookmarks and extensions (and their settings) without a backup.

^^ re deleting ~/.mozilla

Shame on you, I suggest you read the wiki and pacman manual :-)
'pacman -Sc' will remove things you probably don't need from the cache.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

The fact that flash works with every other browser and even with another user means that the problem is your configuration of firefox and not flash.

Delete your user prefs because downgrading won't change anything.

About it being hard core --- what are you talking about? I am asking you to delete prefs from your /home, not from under /etc/or /usr.

So you are saying that you are better off not using flash, in lieu of saving bookmarks?

I always put my bookmarks in delicious..so atleast I am safer in those terms. The extensions can always be re-installed and doesn't take too long.

The problem with these kinds of things is, there might not be one thing in your user configuration that is affecting flash. You just don't know. So you have to get rid off the .mozilla folder. You can definitely make backups if you like, and then use copy/paste to get back the extensions/bookmarks, but if you forget some file they might not be useful and you would have to do every one individually to make sure that it was not the cause of flash not working. PITA, IMO.

I would just re-install the extensions.

No. The question is not using flash vs. loose your bookmarks. I just wanted to point out that there are consequences to "delete your settings" as trouble-shoot advise some may not be aware of. If you have your bookmarks sourced out and not many extensions, this is neglectible of course.
To know if your settings are affecting flash, you don't necessarily have to get rid of ~/.mozilla, I would give "firefox -ProfileManager" a try first.

I know. I know. Shame on me. I'm too lazy for reading manuals. :-(

So. I downgraded and it works fine for firefox, but seamonkey still has the same. I'll try to remove my ./seamonkey. Perhaps it will help me.

I'm thinking You are wrong. That damned flash can't work  with firefox configuration correctly.

My /home is more important than /etc/or /usr.

Re: [Solved]Flashplayer doesn't work after new update.

So flashplugin-10.1.85.3-1 doesn't work, but after you downgraded and didn't touch anything else it's fixed?
Try to upgrade it to flashplugin-10.1.85.3-1 again to double-check. I'm using the same package and so are many other Archers and for most people it just works.

<scratching beard> Not really.

If no one can reproduce it, I'd say it's some kind of an obscure bug or misconfiguration.

Deeply sorry, gays,  clear firefox works, but not perfect. New flash can't play audio on some sites. Thanks everybody for attention.

Can you keep a secret? Well, here it is: I'm no master, unless you want to poke fun at me - if you want a good laugh, then I understand why you're calling me master :-)

I've no idea how to help you with semonkey.

You will be wondered… Seamonkey now do it better then Firefox…
I have one idea: when i install new flashplayer my browsers are run and it works with old one, so it installed uncorrectable. I shall try to reinstall flashplayer without any browser is on.
