I had been running catalyst-hook 10.9 and the xorg-server-backclear 1.8 for a while. Since the 1.9 xorg-server got pushed to the main repos recently I decided to try catalyst-test 10.10 and xorg-server 1.9.
Today I rebooted into a non-X terminal and removed my old catalyst and my old xorg-server. I installed the new ones and rebooted. I forgot to run a pacman -Su afterwards though.
After the reboot my keyboard won't do anything. I can control grub but after arch starts up I can't enter username/password. During the boot up I see the keyboard light flash quickly when it should be turning on.
I have no idea what to do because I can't control anything.
Please help

So Arch doesn't boot to the login prompt? What is the farthest point it will boot to (i.e. what is the last thing that is displayed on the screen)?

It seems that you use a DM. Which one, and how do you start it?

Arch gets all the way to SLiM but my keyboard is off before then.
I use dwm as my window manager.

Are you using xf86-input-evdev or xf86-input-keyboard? Do you use hal?

I believe I use evdev. Unfortunately I can't check for you.
I know evdev needed to be updated before I made my changes.

Hmm...I'm guessing that this is a X problem then. Can you exit SLiM with Ctrl+Alt+F1?

I don't think its an X problem because the light on my keyboard to tell me its on if not lit. It flashes on boot up.
However, I will try to back out of X as soon as I get home.

Also try and check when it is the light actually flashes. See if it is during kernel messages (everything before the colored Arch copyright text and such), or during the actual Arch init (anything after that to tty/login).
You could also check the dmesg output after you plug the keyboard in.

I can't back out to tty from SLiM and the keyboard flashes during the Arch init stuff

I think I am going to use a Live CD to copy all my files that I need and just reformat... it seems like my only option at this point .
Thanks for all the help though.

Try booting to a different runlevel.

please don't use CLOSED as your prefix in the subject line. Closed is used for topics which have been closed. If your issue is solved, use solved else leave it without a prefix.
There's no such thing as a stupid question, but there sure are a lot of inquisitive idiots !
