[Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

Since the Xorg 1.9 update (with intel graphics), as soon as I type in urxvt, the cursor disappears. It reappears when pressing backspace. This behavior only occurs if I use xft font definitions. Does anybody have this problem? A solution?

I fixed this problem yesterday with the following package build:

Do you have information if this is going to be fixed in the official (repo) package soon?

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

I just installed Arch on a laptop with intel graphics.

It worked fine with the outdated xorg-server, but since I updated to 1.9.2, the cursor in urxvt is invisible when xcompmgr is running.

I tried installing xorg-server-compositing-fix from AUR, but that didn't fix it.

It doesn't solves the problem here.
Plus, I don't have the cursor back when I type backspace.

Same here, so to summarize:

* xcompmgr
* Intel graphics
* urxvt
* xft fonts

From a Gentoo bug report:

Quick fix, as suggested by the Internet, is to revert this:

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

Hmh, seems like upstream fix wasnt a complete one after all. Works for me (no more artifacts with metacity and compositing) but you guys still have problems. Thanx w1ntermute for pointing this one out.

So, it seems that reverting that commit works - but a upstream fix later on and revert of the revert (lol) doesn't work in your case. I don't know what to say, you can revert that commit yourself or if you like I can leave compositing-fix on AUR with reverted damage commit. But that's just delaying the inevitable, please feel free to jump in on this bug report and have this worked out upstream:

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

Just wanted to reaffirm that I'm still having this issue.

I installed xorg-server from testing. Didn't fix it.
I installed xorg-server-compositing-fix from AUR. Didn't fix it.
I installed xf86-video-intel from testing with combos of the above two. Didn't fix it.

Can you do this so we have a working package (without manual compilation) until it's worked out upstream?

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

I do have the same problem, and I would also like to have a working package on AUR to do the trick until a future fix is done. Thanks in advance !

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

Sorry for bumping this. I searched the forum and found two similar topics, but the second was linked to this thread so I decided to not make a new thread about this.
With the latest Xorg update:

[2011-01-30 17:40] upgraded xorg-server-common (1.9.2-2 -> 1.9.3.901-1)
[2011-01-30 17:40] upgraded xorg-server (1.9.2-2 -> 1.9.3.901-1)

I'm having the same problem when using urxvt and xcompmgr. The cursor just disappears and setting it to underlineCursor in .Xdefaults does not fix it :\.
Thanks.

Re: [Solved] Cursor disappears in rxvt-unicode / xft font

Things have gotten worse for me after the Xorg 1.9.3 update. After I tried running xcompmgr to see if the problem had been fixed, I started getting the cursor glitch again, except now even restarting my machine won't fix it!

Ironically, this means I'm now using xcompmgr since there's nothing to be gained by disabling it hmm

Forgot to mention this - no cursor issues in xterm here either.

Likewise. Using:

rxvt-unicode 9.10-1
xcompmgr 1.1.5-1
openbox 3.4.11.2-2

To rest or to not do anything, that is the question.

Same for me:
xcompmgr:  1.1.5-1
xorg-server:  1.9.3.901-1
xmonad: 0.9.2-1
rxvt-unicode-256color: 9.09-2

UPDATE:

both xterm (267-1) and rxvt-unicode DO have problems when xft fonts are enabled:

try

$ xterm -fa "xft:Liberation Mono:pixelsize=10"
$ urxvt -fn "xft:Liberation Mono:pixelsize=10"

At least Liberation Mono and DejaVu Mono bork the cursor, while Terminus and the default font (Mono I think) work as expected in both terminals.

I'm using Terminus and having problems.

rxvt-unicode 9.10-1
terminus-font 4.32-1
xcompmgr 1.1.5-1
xmonad-darcs 20110105-1
xorg-server 1.9.3.901-1

Ok it just got even weirder... For me terminus sometimes misbehaves, and sometimes it works correctly... hmm

And like I said above, I restarted my machine after running xcompmgr manually, and even that didn't make the problems go away. Right now I'm not running xcompmgr, but I'm still having the cursor problems.

Edit: is there any chance a mod could unmark this as "[Solved]"?
