[SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

Hello,

I just installed Skype using the Arch wiki and when I roll the mouse pointer over the start screen Openbox restarts and I'm back at my SLIM login screen.

No clue what's going on.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

are you using 32 bit or 64 bit?
if 64, did you install skype from multilib or did you create a chroot?

Are you getting any errors. Start with Xorg.0.log

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

I'm using 64 and installed skype from multilib. I'll print the Xorg.0.log up here when I get off work. I run skype from xterm and I can't tell what errors come up because the screen goes blank right away.

Would creating a chroot be a better option? I mean not just cause I'm having problems, but in general?

thanks

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

i wouldn't think any option is better than the other. Its just the principle of it. Some people like to keep their 32 bit software separate than their 64 bit software. Others prefer a simpler approach of just installing what they want to use without worrying about whether 32 bit and 64 bit apps exist in the same system.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

I don't see any errors in the log. There are some warnings that you might want to fix, but nothing that pops out with respect to skype.

Re: [SOLVED] Can't get Skype to work.

Thanks for trying though. I'm thinking of starting over from the beginning and documenting every package i install and every configuration I make this time. I only have 2 Gb of RAM so I might just go with a i686 install. According to the Wiki I can upgrade back to 64bit when I upgrade the PC. Thanks for the education on reading the Xorg log.

SOLVED BY DO OVER.
