wicd using over 2GB of RAM and is pegging a core at 100% usage

Same for me. I use wicd-curses now.

I believe it is because of the python update.

I have rt2860sta, but happens also with rt2800pci. Is it hardware dependent?

No problem on my machine and I am also using XFCE with an Intel Corporation 82573L Gigabit Ethernet Controller, fully updated system.

For me it happens with the Wireless and the Wired connection.

But I use testing.

wicd-curses works good...
