OpenVPN - push "redirect-gateway" not working

For some reason I need to add 'redirect-gateway' to my clients config even though my server has 'push "redirect-gateway"' enabled. I dont see anywhere in the documents that that should be needed in my clients config.

Anyone?

Server.conf

dev tun
ifconfig 10.8.0.1 10.8.0.2
secret static.key
push "redirect-gateway local def1"
push "dhcp-option DNS 208.67.222.222"

Client.conf

remote 192.168.10.2
dev tun
ifconfig 10.8.0.2 10.8.0.1
secret static.key

Re: OpenVPN - push "redirect-gateway" not working

In the client.conf you would need to add `client` to your config. This sets the 'pull config' directive.

From the manpage:

--client
A helper directive designed to simplify the configuration of OpenVPN's client mode. This directive is equivalent to:
 pull
 tls-client

EDIT: Looking more closely at your config, it appears you are not doing client-server (tls) though, but client-to-client (static) config. So, in that case, maybe give `pull` a try, since you aren't a tls-client.

TLDR: Try this.

remote 192.168.10.2
dev tun
ifconfig 10.8.0.2 10.8.0.1
secret static.key
pull

Note the addition of 'pull' in the config.

Thanks, I actually got the networkmanager applet to work as well. Now enjoying all my wireless network traffic being encrypted without the hassle of SSH port forwarding every damn port I might use big_smile
