Try unplugging your cable modem and then plug it back in and wait for all the lights on the modem. This resets it.

Tried that one aswell but no luck.
Is there any other steps I could take?

Any other networkmanager cable/wifi to use with xfce4 besides wicd? the one used in gnome needs tons of dependencie packages right?

netcfg is all you should ever need.

eventho I love using bash/shells it seems kind of "I want to be a script kiddie"... I attend tons of conferences and I would like this kind of networkmanager to be GUI based.
