[SOLVED] Mind boggling apache/php issues

I've been running 2 arch boxes for a few years, laptop and desktop both pretty much exactly the same except for architecture. I have a ton of code that I write professionally that i use my boxes to test, and a lot more i write for fun. Never had any issues, i think the last issue I had was migrating stuff from php4 to 5.

My first mistake, i was going through a phase and was really starting to like ubuntus look and gnome modifications, and when i saw the unity interface i was blown away and wanted to try it. So i backed up my desktop and installed ubuntu, forgetting of all the issues i had with it in the past. I backed up all of the essestials and my etc/http and etc/php because its been a while since ive set up apache, not to copy, but for reference of all my vhosts.

I was all wow, and after a day i decided to keep her, so i started to install the backend stuff. Set up lamp, added 1 vhost, and it started. Scripts running twice, a few lines that wont execute even if I made them error, some exec() running twice, loops acting funny, die() not being executed, and so on. Enabled PHP errors, none except for and undefined variable here and there that ive always had. Phpmyadmin performs normally, so i think its my code, even though it hasn't changed a line. I dont know what rev apache 2 is at but it was running php 5.3.3 with mysql, curl, and mcrypt enabled.

Did all the normal troubleshooting, permissions, ran a diff on my config and mirrored them. A day of troubleshooting, and I wasn't going to waste my time anymore. Back to arch. Base install, base lamp setup, added a vhost. Yikes same issues. My arch laptop IS RUNNING THE SAME CODE FINE but the desktop with a fresh arch is doing the same thing as on ubuntu.

This post really has nothing to do with Ubuntu or Archlinux, but why is this happening? What else can i do? The only difference is that on original arch install-ext3, ubuntu install-ext4, new arch-ext4, but my /home is on seperate drive as ext3 throught its life. I had backed everything up to another drive even though i was remounting my /home after the reinstalls, so i had 2 good copies of everything incase i was a disk issue. The only thing thats left to troubleshoot is my memory, I've spent 3 days trying to get apache and php to function normally with a base config. In the meantime my laptop's screen went out so I'm going to hook it up externally and grab the files and config just to test again and throw some code on my vps running lenny.

make sure your laptop doesn't have an .htaccess file location somewhere that is making things magically work there.
Other than that, check file permissions?

Based on your description, it sounds pretty weird indeed.

For the love of god...

It was a rogue FF extension. The last thing I tried was another browser, arora. No issues.
I mistakenly installed some other adblock popup extension instead of the element hiding helper. It was causing FF to make 2 requests per page, a seperate HEAD and GET, therefor running pages twice. You would this this asshat would whitelist localhost. I shouldn't get mad at him, I'm the one who installed his shitware.
