Arch suitable as a very basic fileserver homeuse and downloadmachine

I've got a second hand eee 901.
Was thinking of turning this funny little laptop into a dedicated fileserver for homeuse.

Would Arch be suitable enough, or should i look at Debian, Ubuntu server?

The plan:
- install some Linux distro on the 901
- hook up two external usb hd's
- make it serve files to :
    - LG DP1W (media player in the living room)
    - If possible --> be backup disk for timemachine on the Imac

Is it possible to use hdparm for spindown the external usb disks?

Thanks for the tips!

Gr Sven

Well, this is pretty much what I'm doing with it on one of my PCs at home.

I have it running uShare to share media with my TV, phone, PCs and playstation. I also have rtorrent running on it.

It works well, no idea how the PC itself likes it tongue

yes, it's easy to set up too.

I also use samba to share files more conventionally, I looked at NFS but I couldn't get it to work back then.

I also use an old laptop connected to a large drive for the same purposes. I use rtorrent and sshfs, and that's mostly it.
