Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

Hi guys,

because of this,

https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=109127

I can not start my virtualbox guest windows 7 OS. On that guest OS, I had installed Fifa09. But I can not access it anymore. Therefore, without downgrading the newest kernel, I tried to do the following.

1. Resize my one home partition into two partitions (it has 150 GB free space. I want to use about 50GB) and install windows os on that partition to be able install and play fifa 09 on it.
(is there any tool or application which just creates a new partition of an existing partition with enough free space=> how can I do this?)
2. Try to install fifa 09 using wine on arch directly. (Absolutelty no idea how to do this)

Guys, please help with the question which option is the best or generally possible? Did anybody install fifa 09 on arch using wine? Is it working fine?

Thanks guys!

Re: Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

According the appdb, fifa 09 ver 1.2 runs just fine under wine

Thanks for the reply. I will wait for some more responses and then try it. I personally prefer the second choice. would be nice If I could play under arch linux. :-)

Re: Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

Too slow because of wine when I play on arch linux? => My pc has good level of performance. Would I feel the difference? :-(

How can I install fifa 09 with wine? Well, firstly how can I install wine?

Which of the following packets do I need? Would wine and winegame be enough?

community/q4wine 0.120-1
    A Qt4 GUI for Wine
community/winefish 1.3.3-9
LaTeX editor based on Bluefish with auto-completion and syntax highlighting
community/winegame 0.2.0-1
An interface to install windows programs in Wine
community/winestuff 0.2.0-1
    Library utility for winegame
community/winetricks 20101106-1
Script to install various redistributable runtime libraries in Wine.
multilib/wine 1.3.8-1
A compatibility layer for running Windows programs
multilib/wine_gecko 1.1.0-1
    Wine's built-in replacement for Microsoft's Internet Explorer

Re: Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

just wine should be enough. After that just run the relevant .exe file and go through with the install process as normal. If that doesn't work, then check the appdb for any more info, specifically for Fifa 09.

Best place to start would be here https://wiki.archlinux.org/index.php/Wine

I think ,

it is working pretty good.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GyTFHkNH … r_embedded

I need to contact this guy. Only wine should be enough? Do I need any other packages to make wine process simple and easy?

From their descriptions, the following packages could be really useful. Does anybody have experience with the following packages?

community/winegame 0.2.0-1
An interface to install windows programs in Wine
community/winestuff 0.2.0-1
    Library utility for winegame

Re: Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

I installed wine and then I tried to install fifa09, But it did not succeed. Does anybody know how to install it? I run the command

"wine /Pathtotheinstallation/Setup.exe" and it also installed without any apparent problem. As I wanted to start the application under ~/.wine/cblabla bla /EA..../fifa09.exe

it gives an error and says that it encountered a problem. Does anybody know how to install it?

P.S.: I have an original cd of fifa 09. Therefore it should be because of the installation cd. It works just fine on windows.

The Virtualbox problem mentioned in your OP should be fixed now, so this adventure into wineland may not be needed anymore anyway

graphic card:

lspci | grep VGA

driver:

extra/nvidia-utils 260.19.21-1 [installed]

Virtualbox is working fine :-) I also installed on my virtualbox machine but it says

"A required secure module can not be activated. This program can not be executed (3000)."

I already searched for it. But no success yet.

Re: Very serious question: Fifa 09 installation[SOLVED]

Hi Archie_enthusiasm. I have had a similar error message running "Kindle for PC" under wine which crashes in a way which is related to libcrypto.so which is owned by the "openssl 1.0.0.c-1 . I reported this on the wine bugtracker and it was suggested that this is a problem in Arch Linux's openSSL library (http://bugs.winehq.org/show_bug.cgi?id=25475).

I've filed a bug report on the Arch Linux bug tracker.

https://bugs.archlinux.org/task/22045
