Different temperatures in CPU cores since kernel upgrade

Hi,

The title pretty much says it all. Ever since the upgrade to the kernel 2.6.36 the two cores of my CPU (and Intel i7) have different temperatures. It's almost like the first one does all the work while the other one is inactive:

 [chs@Labarum ~]$ acpi -t
Thermal 0: ok, 52.0 degrees C
Thermal 1: ok, 26.8 degrees C

Any thoughts? Is this bad?

Re: Different temperatures in CPU cores since kernel upgrade

Which modules did you load?  I guess my processor isn't supported via acpi:

$ acpi -V
Cooling 0: Processor 0 of 10
Cooling 1: Processor 0 of 10
Cooling 2: Processor 0 of 10
Cooling 3: Processor 0 of 10

What does sensors show?

Example from my X3360:

$ sensors
coretemp-isa-0000
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 0: +35.0°C (high = +76.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0001
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 3: +34.0°C (high = +76.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0002
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 1: +35.0°C (high = +76.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

coretemp-isa-0003
Adapter: ISA adapter
Core 2: +37.0°C (high = +76.0°C, crit = +100.0°C)

it8718-isa-0290
Adapter: ISA adapter
fan1: 610 RPM (min = 0 RPM)
temp1: +40.0°C (low = +127.0°C, high = +127.0°C) sensor = thermistor
temp2: +32.0°C (low = +127.0°C, high = +127.0°C) sensor = thermal diode

Re: Different temperatures in CPU cores since kernel upgrade

With acpi -t what you are seeing is your CPU (0) and Case (1) temperature. Use "sensors" instead

Re: Different temperatures in CPU cores since kernel upgrade

This can make CPU stay hot https://bbs.archlinux.org/viewtopic.php?id=109371. kworker has many wakeups since last kernel update.

Re: Different temperatures in CPU cores since kernel upgrade

Thanks for the info. (See output below). I am going to "clean" the laptop a bit, but kworker does not seem to make the CPU run more though, only the temperature is affected.  So I guess I'll wait for the next kernel upgrade...

 [chs@Labarum ~]$ acpi -V

Thermal 0: trip point 2 switches to mode active at temperature 71.0 degrees C
Thermal 0: trip point 3 switches to mode active at temperature 55.0 degrees C
