Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

Hi, I'm having problem with getting my integrated video camera to wirk with skype. I've searched wiki, and googled it, but find no solution. Since I don't know which webcam I have in my toshiba, I've been installing and uninstalling drivers from the list in webcam wiki, but that's longprocess so I stopped.

Anyway, I get camera output with guvcview, so I guess it's not driver problem but skype problem. I'm new not just to arch but to linux (about a week of experience), so...
Ok, I tried running skype with this:

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

But no result. I'm guessing lspci command list various interfaces so here's the output:

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

I'm not sure I understand.
Do you get to open Skype at all, or you are not able to open Skype and therefore assume it is related to your camera.

Laptops can be a tricky thing with web cams.  I have an Acer that recognizes the web cam but not the microphone and therefore I have to use an external one.

In your case I do not see anything in lspci that remotely looks like a web cam ... nevertheless if you get output with  guvcview can you identify what device is used as in that program ?
If you can use the same device in your Skype config see if it helps.

I'm assuming you've enabled skype video and are using the proper device under skype settings?

Skype works, but I get no webcam output when I go to options and video or something. There's option to test video, I click test and ledlamp that indicates that camera is active lights up, but I get no video output from skype.

yes.

Ok, so I've run lsusb, and below is what I get. I think my webcam is this "Importek" thing. Anyway, when I googled it, i got some fisshy results, crappy importek website and nothing useful all in all. Didn't find anything on wiki either. Any ideas? And this lsusb command... I'm assuming it lists usb interfaces, but does integrated webcam have to be recognised as usb device?

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

Stupid suggestion from my side, but just in any case wink :
1) check if /usr/lib/libv4l/v4l1compat.so exists; if not:

pacman -S v4l-utils

2) if you use x86_64, you should instead use

LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so skype

Again check if /usr/lib32/libv4l/v4l1compat.so exists; if not:

pacman -S lib32-v4l-utils

(you know, skype has only 32-bit binary).

I hope this helps. Good luck!

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

Install luvcview from the AUR and post the output of 'luvcview -L'.

Ok. Here it is:

luvcview version 0.2.1
Video driver: x11
A window manager is available
video /dev/video0
/dev/video0 does not support read i/o
{ pixelformat = 'YUYV', description = 'YUV 4:2:2 (YUYV)' }
{ discrete: width = 640, height = 480 }
        Time interval between frame: 1/30, 1/25, 1/20, 1/15, 1/10, 1/5,
{ discrete: width = 160, height = 120 }
        Time interval between frame: 1/30, 1/25, 1/20, 1/15, 1/10, 1/5,

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

@BlackArts
Are you using 32bit or 64bit?
Are you using the skype package from the repos?

The output you get from luvcview is very similar to what I get from a webcam that works fine with skype so yours should work too, skype can be picky about the video formats the webcams provide but the format your webcam provides should not be the problem.

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

Not many ideas here, check dmesg for any errors or warnings and try starting skype from the command line and check if it complains about something. Other than this no more ideas here now.

Re: Skype camera not working! (I tried wiki tips)

Hi I tried too wiki tips but nothing worked. So I searched in google a possible answer to this problem and I found that if you set a variable webcam works fine in skype:

export XLIB_SKIP_ARGB_VISUALS=1

I created a script to launch from graphical mode and it's working so good. I found this answer in skype forum.
