Suddenly wrong network speed

Hi guys,

i'm totally lost here, cause i tried everything to fix my problem without success.

ok, what happened:

Currently my network card runs in 10 MBit mode only and cannot be switched to 1000 MBit.
http://paste.ubuntu.com/566959/

Here you can see that my card should be able to handle 1GBit but is currently set to 10 MBit and i don't know why.

When i try to change it manually i get this:

 sxe@main ~ $ sudo ethtool -s eth0 speed 1000 duplex full autoneg off
Password:
Cannot set new settings: Invalid argument
  not setting speed
  not setting duplex
  not setting autoneg
 sxe@main ~ $

*edit: It also happens when using a livecd (linuxmint). So i think its no OS failure. Maybe the router oder the network card?

This setup worked in 1GBit mode for some month now without a problem and i did not change anything.

My notebook, also running arch, with the same cable on the same router port works in 1GBit mode so i think there is something wrong with my desktop computer?

Hopefully someone can help me. 10MBit sucks. smile

Thx

Re: Suddenly wrong network speed

Link partner advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full

Did you check the other end of the link? Try forcing the speed on both sides. Check if the network card vendor has any test utilities, it might help discover the problem.

Re: Suddenly wrong network speed

Hey ROOKIE,
i already tried that but i found a solution now.

I went to the next store and bought a new 1GBit ethernet controller (20 bucks) and now it works.
So i think it is a hardware failure.

Anyway, thx
